Why AATSP?
The American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese has served educators and students for more than ninety years! We offer the following opportunities for your professional developmentand for your students' continued growth:
AATSP hosts an annual conferencewith more than 200 sessions, workshops, e-posters and invited speakers that will enhance your cultural, literary, and professional knowledge. This conference is typically held in July at locations rich in Latin American and Luso-Brazilian culture and influence.
AATSP also gives out numerous scholarships and awards for teachers, teachers in training, and members.
Your AATSP membership includes automatic enrollment into your local chapter. Stay in touch with members near you and participate in events such as workshares, workshops, and the annual immersion weekend! We want you to join the Buckeye Chapter! Membership is only$25 for students, and $45 for first time members.
Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica (SHH) is an honor society for high school students enrolled in Spanish and Portuguese. SHH offers opportunities for student activities, publishing, competitive scholarship and travel. Currently there are over 2,000 national and international chapters.
Sociedad Hispánica de Amistad (SHA) is a service learning organization with benefits for middle/junior high students enrolled in Spanish and Portuguese. This is a great way to get your students motivated!
The National Spanish Exam (NSE)are online, standardized assessment tools for grades 6-12, given voluntarily by more than 3800 teachers throughout the United States to measure achievement and proficiency of students who are studying Spanish as a second language. The examinations can be used as a motivational competition for students as well as for assessment purposes. There is no teacher's fee to administer this test for AATSP members.
TheNational Poster Contest provides the opportunity for students to celebrate language learning through artistic expression.
Hispania, the official journal of the AATSP, is published quarterly and features articles on language, literature, theoretical and applied linguistics, cultural studies as well as book/media reviews. You must be a member to publish in Hispania.
